H2O...

Before I moved out on my own, I got used to drinking bottled water. Not necessarily the 'branded' kind, but bottled nonetheless. I was never really very happy with it, due to the amount of plastic you end up throwing out, and the plastic bottles can become toxic if they were shipped in the heat.

Since I can't afford one of those active filter systems to install in my place... I looked around for the next best thing. My search led me to Brita. They're not a new company, but they were new to me. Although the water in my building is potable, you can never really be too safe when it comes to water.

I like the convenience of the Brita filter system, and how it does keep lime deposits from forming and that saves me a whole lot of cleaning and descaling on my cordless kettle.

They offer a wide range of jugs and water dispensers. They're a lot cheaper than buying bottled water. And no need for electricity!

From Brita's website:
  • reduces taste and aroma impairing substances such as chlorine, chlorine compounds, organic impurities and limescale - for a great natural taste.
  • permanently absorbs metals such as lead and copper, which may be present in old household piping, for more well being.
Now, I've done further research, and Brita filters do NOT kill bacteria or other live organisms... they do however trap them for the rated life of the filter. Beyond the 2 months, it is highly recommended that you change the filter to prevent the growth of bacteria on the filter itself.
